This beautiful golden crested form of Haageocereus is still rare. We love this cactus for its beautiful shape and colour. Interestingly the spikes on this cactus are hairs that mean it can be handled without gloves, you will find it too hard to resist stroking your new plant friend he is so warm and furry.
The golden hairs serve to protect it from the harsh sun common in its native habitat in South America and benefit the plant by reducing sun exposure by trapping a layer of air next to the cactus body. This helps keep the plant cool in the summer and warm in the winter. How clever!
