XL Pachypodium saundersii *rare*

Pachypodium saundersii is a collectors plant from a range of unusual and sought after plants from Africa. Pachypodium means ‘thick foot', referring to the large, swollen caudiciform stems all members of this genus have. Found naturally in Southern Africa, on the Lebombo Mountains and other areas in KwaZulu-Natal, Mpumalanga and Eswatini (Swaziland).

It is usually a small, shrubby bush, but can grow up to 1.5m tall. The plant is covered in paired, sharp thorns, and dark green shiny leaves, and it flowers annually producing masses of white flowers that have a pinkish/purplish tinge to them. Leaves are present along the whole branch of this species which is unusual for Pachypodium.

We have just one plant in this impressive large size, a very unique and beautiful plant.

If you’d like to give this amazing house plant as a gift then we can make it even more special by including a free, handwritten card as part of your plant gift delivery.

Here at Happy Houseplants we pride ourselves on personal service and we really want to share our love of plants - so whether it’s variegated house plants or cacti, mini indoor plants or large foliage plants, we’re the best place to buy houseplants!

Pachypodium Care level

Requires very basic care and will thrive with neglect. It's deciduous and loses its leaves in winter. This is an indication to stop watering as much, if at all.

Where should I put my Pachypodium?

Pachypodium saundersii likes to be placed in partial to full sun with a minimum of three hours of direct sunlight per day. Warm and bright afternoon sun is best. keep in a southwest-facing window ideally

How should I water Pachypodium saundersi?

Water when the soil is dry and then soak and allow to drain, use rainwater if possible. The soil needs to be kept mostly dry and never let this plant sit in water. Water sparingly if Pachypodium saundersii has dropped its leaves in winter (which is normal).
